OUR PROGRAMS

The Brotman Early Learning Center believes that all children are unique individuals who learn best through play and exploration.

The Reggio Emilia approach is an educational philosophy focused on preschool and primary education. It is a pedagogy described as student-centered and constructivist that uses self-directed, experiential learning in relationship-driven environments. The program is based on the principles of respect, responsibility, and community through exploration and discovery through a self-guided curriculum.

The whole child approach ensures that each student is healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged, sets the standard for comprehensive, sustainable school improvement and provides for long-term student success.

The combination of these two approaches to early learning is what BELC’s curriculum and classrooms are inspired by. We are child directed and child centered. The teachers write a curriculum with the children’s interests in mind. If that curriculum leads the children into other ideas, the teachers shift with the children. Our play based learning, along with the Reggio Emilia, and whole child approach create an optimal learning environment for each individual child.

Learning is meant to be a natural, joyful experience. Our goal is to help your child develop socially, emotionally, physically, and intellectually. We don’t think of children as a series of isolated physical, mental, and emotional attributes, but as a thinking, feeling, moving, loving, individual person with individual needs, cares, and desires. Children thrive when the process of discovery is lovingly encouraged and gently reinforced.

Our philosophy fosters individual growth by providing plenty of opportunities for exploration and child-initiated choice.

All children need opportunities to be responsible, make choices, and to be treated with respect. Our program encourages your child’s growth and development with early learning experiences that build strong foundation for his or her social, emotional, physical, and intellectual skills. We believe each child has unique talents and interests. Our teachers honor these differences by providing the children with customized attention and activities that enable them to learn and grow at his or her own pace, and in their own way. This approach is designed to encourage children to become confident, happy, and self aware.

The curriculum we use is Creative Curriculum Birth through 6 years, with the Teaching Strategies Gold Assessment tool.
